NYCT March member online meeting
featuring Henrik Nilsson
Thursday, March 11, at 1:00-2:00 pm EST via Zoom
Presentation: Tackling terminology in translation and interpreting
Most translators and interpreters need to tackle terminology, and many may struggle with questions about if, when, and how to approach terminology in their work. But is there a terminological responsibility, and if so, how can it be assumed? In this presentation, Henrik Nilsson will discuss the notion of terminological responsibility from various aspects and present a three-step model for translation-oriented terminology work, focusing on why concept analysis and definitions are important for translators and interpreters. Besides, he will examine several terms in given contexts, demonstrate some pragmatic ways of dealing with them, and provide some ideas on assessing sources’ terminological relevance according to international standards.
