NYCT May 2022 Member Meeting Online

Thursday, May 26, 2022, 6:00 PM Eastern Time

Title: Tools and Technology in Translation ― Teaching Beyond Theory and Practice

Presenter: Rafa Lombardino

 Description:

The current academic environment for language professionals must strive to include real life experiences, so that translators and interpreters are not only ready to meet language-related challenges, but also learn how to become freelancers or small business owners, work with new technology, find their niche, adapt their skills, and diversify their services.

The new generation of translators must walk away from their educational experiences not only with a certificate or diploma, but with the practical knowledge they will need in order to thrive in their day-to-day activities.

In this presentation, Rafa Lombardino will talk about what she has learned after assisting over 560 students during her twelve years of experience as a translation instructor and discuss the work of preparing beginning translators as they plan for a freelancing and telecommuting career.

Presenter Bio:

RAFA LOMBARDINO was born in Brazil and has been living in California since 2002. She became a professional translator in 1997, is certified by the American Translators Association (ATA) in both English-to-Portuguese and Portuguese-to-English translations and has a Professional Certificate in ES>EN translations from UC San Diego Extension, where she started teaching translation classes in 2010, including “Tools and Technology in Translation,” which was also released in book format. She is the President & CEO of Word Awareness, hosts the Translation Confessional podcast, and specializes in Technology, Marketing, HR, EH&S, Education, Health & Wellness, Audiovisual, and Literature.
