New York Circle of Translators

The Power of NYCT Membership

Membership in the only organization of professional translators and interpreters in the New York Tri-State area.

  • Mix, mingle and learn from peers and like-minded colleagues. You will also meet local business owners and representatives from area language service providers.

Inclusion in the online membership directory

  • Clients looking to hire can find you in our online membership directory profile which shows your contact details, language pairs, areas of expertise, and certifications.

Network and make new friends

  • At Circle events, including our monthly meetings, networking events, holiday parties, and picnics, you’ll meet other translators and interpreters, exchange business cards with representatives of language service provider companies and discuss the latest industry trends.

Stay current in your field

  • The Circle is known for its on-site and online professional development events. Presenters hail from all over the country and overseas. You can brush up on your skills and terminology, and learn about localization or setting up your own business, to name a few recent event topics.

Use of the NYCT Logo

  • As an NYCT member, you may display the NYCT logo on your website, resume, or social media page. Using the logo is a great way to put your NYCT membership to work for you.

Advertise on our website at no cost

  • Individual or corporate Circle members can advertise their services on our website at no additional cost

Receive The Gotham Translator, our electronic newsletter published 5-6 times yearly

  • Stay up to speed on industry news, read articles written by your fellow Circle members, and learn about regional and national training events and competitions for translators and interpreters.

Benefit from expert guidance through the Mentoring Program

  • Translators and interpreters who are new to the profession may request to be paired with an experienced colleague who can provide career development guidance, typically lasting for about six months. Participants are free to determine their own frequency and means of contact. The mentoring program is not intended to be a substitute for formal instruction in the techniques of translation or interpretation, and the mentor is not obligated to review or correct the work of the mentee.

Prepare for and take the ATA Certification exam

  • The New York Circle of Translators works with the American Translators Association to schedule sittings of the ATA Certification exam. As a member, you will receive notifications of exam sittings as well as access to information sessions about the exam and how to prepare for it.

Receive financial support for your professional development

  • The Charles M. Stern Autonomous Grant provides funding to novice translators and interpreters who are Circle members and who wish to participate in professional development activities but need financial assistance to do so. As a member, you will receive notifications about the Grant as it becomes offered for qualifying activities that help you grow.

Memberships to the New York Circle of Translators run for one calendar year beginning on January 1 and ending on December 31.
